Biggest regular-price falls

Regular shelf prices that came down between 1 September 2026 and 30 September 2026 — lasting price cuts, not specials.

How we measured this

We compared each product's regular shelf price on 1 September 2026 with its regular price on 30 September 2026. On a day a product was on special, its regular price is the shop's own advertised "was" price. A change only counts if it lasted: the starting price had held for at least 28 days, and a new price held for at least 21 days — so a short promotion without a "was" price isn't mistaken for a price change. Prices are Woolworths and ALDI online prices for the eastern states.

The basket is everyday groceries — milk, bread, meat, pantry staples and the like. Fresh fruit and vegetables are left out, because their prices move with the seasons and their specials aren't always marked. Coles isn't included: our Coles price history isn't yet complete enough to measure a month's change reliably. IGA isn't included because each IGA sets its own prices.

The bottom line

Of the 3,419 everyday products we could compare, 59 (1.7%) had a lasting rise in regular price over the period, 126 (3.7%) a lasting fall, and 3,234 (94.6%) ended where they started.
